Phlebotomy certification in Washington state

Three ways to qualify

  1. Complete an accredited postsecondary phlebotomy program.
  2. Complete an approved training program, with an attestation from your supervising practitioner.
  3. Hold a national phlebotomy certification.

The state rule (WAC 246-827-0400) doesn't set a fixed number of punctures; it says training may vary with the skill of the trainee.

Why a national exam still helps

A national certification is a direct route to the state credential and travels with you if you move. In California, for example, a national exam is mandatory. Compare options in phlebotomy certification.
