CCMA passing score: how many questions can you miss?

You need a scaled score of 390 on a 200 to 500 scale. The exam has 180 questions and only 150 count. Because scores are scaled across exam versions, there is no fixed number of questions you can miss, so aim well above 390 in practice before test day.

How the CCMA is scored

Your correct answers are converted into a scaled score between 200 and 500. Scaling keeps every version of the exam to the same standard: a slightly harder version needs slightly fewer correct answers to reach 390, an easier one needs slightly more.

Only 150 of the 180 questions count. The other 30 are pretest questions and look exactly like the scored ones, so you can't tell them apart during the exam.

The number that matters on test day is the one you see in practice the week before.

So how many questions can you miss?

NHA doesn't publish a raw cutoff, so the honest answer is a margin, not a number. If your practice results sit right on the line, a slightly harder exam version is enough to drop you under 390.

You may see 390 described as 78% (390 out of 500). That shortcut doesn't apply here: the scale starts at 200, not 0, and the raw score behind 390 can change between exam versions.

  • Treat 390 as the floor, never the goal
  • Your weakest domain pulls your total down more than your strongest one lifts it
  • Since the 30 pretest questions are hidden, no question is safe to skip
