What decides how long you need
The 4 to 6 week range is our recommendation, not an NHA rule. Three things move it up or down:
- How recent your training is. NHA's eligibility allows a training program completed within the past 5 years, or 1 to 2 years of supervised work experience. Fresh graduates usually need review; experienced MAs often need the theory they don't use daily.
- Your weak domains. Clinical Patient Care is 56% of the score. A gap there costs far more than a gap in law and ethics.
- Your daily time. 30 focused minutes every day beats a single long weekend session.
A 6 week CCMA study plan
- Week 1: baseline. Take a timed practice set across all domains and write down your weakest three.
- Weeks 2 to 3: Clinical Patient Care. General patient care, infection control, intake and vitals, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG.
- Week 4: the smaller domains. Foundational knowledge, anatomy and physiology, administrative work, communication, law and ethics.
- Week 5: weak spot drills. Only the topics still costing you points.
- Week 6: exam pace. Full length timed practice, one question per minute. Book your date when you're clearly above the line.

Can you study for the CCMA in two weeks?
It's possible if you recently finished an MA program and your practice results are already strong. Most candidates are better served by 4 to 6 weeks of focused review.
How many hours a day should I study for the CCMA?
Consistency matters more than length. 30 to 60 focused minutes a day on your weakest domains is a solid routine.
What should I study first for the CCMA?
Clinical Patient Care. It is 84 of the 150 scored items.
Is the CCMA open book?
No. It is a proctored exam, taken at your school, a PSI test center or with live remote proctoring.
